The Stuart D. Wilson Chair in Surgical Oncology
It is with great pleasure that the Department of Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin announces the creation of the Stuart D. Wilson Chair in Surgical Oncology. An active recruitment is currently underway for the Chief of the newly established Division of Surgical Oncology who will be the inaugural holder of the Stuart D. Wilson Chair.
Dr. Wilson is an active faculty member of the Department of Surgery and an internationally known expert in the fields of oncologic and endocrine surgery. He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1960. He completed his surgical training in the Marquette University Integrated Residency and the Milwaukee County General Surgery Training Program in 1966 under the direction of Dr. Edwin Ellison. This program became the Medical College of Wisconsin when Marquette University separated from the Medical College. Dr. Wilson joined the faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin and became a Professor of Surgery in 1979. His tenure at the Medical College was interrupted only for his service in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969 where he received the Bronze Star with Combat V. Dr. Wilson has been president of the Milwaukee Academy of Surgery, the Milwaukee Surgical Society, the Wisconsin Surgical Society, and most notably, in 1991 he was president of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. He has also served two terms as Governor at Large (Wisconsin) of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Wilson has made many seminal contributions to the published literature on diseases of the pancreas, extrahepatic bile ducts and endocrine system. His work with Dr. Ellison on the Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome is internationally recognized. Dr. Wilson has published over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts, over 25 book chapters, and has made numerous presentations throughout the world. Most importantly, Dr. Wilson has trained many of the surgeons throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest and his skills as a surgical educator are frequently the subject of surgical lore by graduates of the MCW training program. There is no higher honor in the Department of Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin than the creation of an endowed chair. Dr. Wilson is a gifted clinician, a dedicated researcher and teacher, and a wonderful human being. It is with great pride and admiration that we announce the creation of the Stuart D. Wilson Chair in Surgical Oncology.
