Four honored with 2013 T. Michael Bolger Standing Ovation Awards

G. Hossein Almassi, MDApril 11, 2013 College News - Three faculty members and a staff member were selected to receive the 2013 T. Michael Bolger Standing Ovation Award. The awards were presented at a reception on April 4.

The Standing Ovation Awards recognize individuals affiliated with the College who have enhanced the quality of campus life for the students of MCW and gone above and beyond their required duties to provide exemplary educational, social or organizational improvements in the student community. They are presented annually by the Student Assembly.

This year’s winners include G. Hossein Almassi, MD, Professor of Surgery (Cardiothoracic), Erin Chinnock, MD, fourth-year resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Lynn Lewendowski, Educational Technologies Specialist II in MCW Libraries, and Estil Strawn, MD, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chief of Reproductive Medicine.

Dr. Almassi was selected because he “loves his work and his teaching and he does it with joy and dedication.” Dr. Chinnock was selected for “advancing student life by being an excellent teacher, role model and clinician.” Lewandowski was selected because she “played a big role in making the Discovery Curriculum a success.” Dr. Strawn was selected because “he is completely and utterly invested in the students and residents at MCW, and he goes to great lengths to optimize learning.”

The winners were selected by the Student Assembly from a distinguished group of nominations submitted by students, faculty and staff. In all, 14 nominees were honored during the luncheon and ceremony for their outstanding contributions.

Cheong Jun Lee, MD

Dr. Cheong Jun Lee, Assistant Professor from the Division of Vascular Surgery, was among the nominees.  Dr. Lee “provided exceptionally valuable educational experiences for many staff and medical students.”
