College to roll out communication enhancements
March 29, 2011 College News - The Medical College of Wisconsin will be integrating numerous communication enhancements over the coming months to improve our work life and help us connect more easily with each other.
John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, President and CEO, identified some of these projects in his March 22 email to faculty, staff and students. Following is a brief description of each project. Additional and more specific information on each project will be shared in future College News stories posted on InfoScope.
Campus WiFi network to be expanded
Information Services will be installing an expanded WiFi (wireless) network throughout MCW owned buildings on campus as well as the Research Park Center and the Tosa Center to facilitate mobility. Once completed, members of the faculty, staff and student bodies who have laptops, iPads or smart phones will have the ability to access MCW online resources at any time and from most places in College buildings.
Online room scheduling system to be implemented
A new College-wide scheduling application will be implemented to make it easier and more efficient for employees to plan meetings, classes and events. The tool will provide users the ability to view room availability, request or reserve rooms based on permission levels, and browse and reserve technologies they may need for their meeting – such as Web conferencing, video conferencing and presentation tools.
Single Sign On (SSO) tool to be implemented
Information Services will be implementing a single sign-on tool that allows employees to access multiple applications – like TimeLink, Oracle, eBridge and GE IDX – with a single username and password, making access to these systems much more efficient and less cumbersome.
Photo library to be updated
The College’s photo library is going to be updated to more accurately reflect life on the MCW campus. As part of the update, photos will be taken throughout MCW departments and offices that show faculty and staff members at work as well as student life and education. If you have suggestions for photos, please contact Teresa Manion, Director of Content Development and Management, email@example.com. Once updated, departments and centers will have access to these photos and will be encouraged to make use of them on their Web sites.
College’s public Web site to receive a facelift
The College’s public Web site, www.mcw.edu, will be getting a facelift as many of the new photos in the photo library will be rotated through. The new photos will be incorporated in the College’s web site in early summer.
College’s weekly email to faculty and staff is being redesigned
In the coming weeks, the weekly College News email to faculty and staff will have a new contemporary look and some new content. A group of faculty and staff from throughout the organization provided feedback that helped shape the final design.
InfoScope to be upgraded and redesigned
InfoScope, the College’s intranet site, is being upgraded and redesigned so information is organized in a way that better reflects the way people work. The redesigned site will give more prominence to news from many departments, offer more images of employees, and provide faster access to important links through a “mega-menu.” The redesigned site is expected to launch this summer. Feel free to view the new design and offer comments and suggestions to Linda LeMahieu, Web Services Librarian, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Electronic message boards to be installed
The College will install electronic message boards in select public locations. The boards will serve as another avenue for sharing information about events, successes and life at MCW.
