College Achievements Identified as Among “Big Ideas” from Wisconsin Research Labs
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s 2013 list of the top 10 “Big Ideas” from Wisconsin research labs includes two MCW projects: research by Howard Jacob, PhD, (Human and Molecular Genetics Center, Physiology) in genetic sequencing (with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin) and the opening of the nation’s first lab to offer whole genome sequencing; and the development of a new sepsis test (with Froedtert) by Nathan Ledeboer, PhD, (Pathology) that can provide test results faster than conventional methods. The article also notes the advantages to MCW/UWM scientific collaborations through the development of UWM’s new Innovation Campus, and quotes Robert Prost, PhD, (Biophysics) on the benefits of a new MRI scanner by GE Health. Also noted is MCW’s support of the Institute for Urban Agriculture and Nutrition through a Healthier Wisconsin Partnership grant.
