April 25, 2014 College News - On April 26, 1986, a catastrophic nuclear accident occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. Soviet officials said that the only way American doctors could help treat radiation victims were if they were represented by an international body. American doctors, represented by the International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry, provide the needed care. News media outlets worldwide received information on the disaster victims through the Medical College of Wisconsin.
