Rock concert on May 10 to benefit MCW cancer research

April 22, 2014 College News - On Saturday, May 10, Shattered, a Rolling Stones tribute band, and Substitute, a tribute to The Who, will perform in a concert to benefit cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Tickets are $10, payable at the door the night of the event. Guests must be 21 years of age or older or accompanied by a legal guardian.  The concert will take place at Shank Hall in Milwaukee.

Shattered will play from 8 p.m. until 9:15 p.m., and Substitute will play from 9:45 p.m. until 11 p.m.  The evening is being organized by Tom Branigan, president and chief executive officer of Milwaukee-based Branigan Communications, who founded Substitute in 2005.

“There isn’t a person in these bands who hasn’t been impacted in some way by cancer,” said Branigan, who is organizer of the show. “When the possibility for this benefit came up, we jumped at the chance to be a part of it. Some of the greatest minds in the world are right here in our backyard, working on treatments and cures that will impact us all. We are proud to forge this partnership with MCW.”

Sue Northey, vice president of brand strategy at Branigan Communications, helped facilitate the partnership between Tom Branigan and MCW.  Sue, a cancer survivor, is a member of the MCW Cancer Center Board, an all-volunteer group of dedicated civic and professional leaders who raise both funds and awareness for the Cancer Center.

Substitute, with a look and sound that captures The Who at the height of their 70s peak, plays the songs that have become part of rock legend. From the hits (Pinball Wizard, Who Are You and Won’t Get Fooled Again) to lesser-known classics (The Seeker, Bargain and The Real Me), Substitute is becoming a regular at some of the Midwest’s most prestigious venues and festivals. The band features Andy Potocic on guitar, Andy Pagel on drums, vocalist Dave Stevens and Branigan on bass guitar.

Shattered reproduces the sound, feel and vibe of the legendary rock group the Rolling Stones. Shattered features Aaron Heffernan on vocals and harmonic, Johnny Majdalani on guitar, Dave Vegafria on bass and background vocals, Kurt Weber on drums, Chris Conrad on guitar, and "Rodeo" Rob Pfeiffer on keys.
