Rock River Cancer Research Foundation awards $75,000 to MCW investigator
Mar. 13, 2014 College News- The Rock River Cancer Research Foundation will award $75,000 to a Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) breast cancer scientist to fund her research.
Carol Williams, PhD, Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at MCW, has dedicated her career to identifying the mechanisms behind breast cancer and has made enormous strides towards understanding the disease. She focuses her work on the development of tumors by breast cancer cells and the subsequent spread of cancer throughout the body. The goal of Dr. Williams’ research is to be able to prevent the formation and migration of cancerous cells.
The Rock River Cancer Research Foundation will present Dr. Williams with a check for her work on Tuesday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at Wisconsin Harley-Davidson, 1280 Blue Ribbon Drive in Oconomowoc. The Foundation raises its funds through its annual “Ridin’ to a Cure” motorcycle ride and party in September. This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the event, in which Dr. Williams is a regular participant. Since its inception, the foundation has donated nearly $2 million to the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center.
