Melodie Wilson Oldenburg Breast Cancer Symposium planned for October 3
Sept. 24, 2014 College News - The Department of Surgery is hosting the Froedtert/Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Melodie Wilson Oldenburg Breast Cancer Symposium on Friday, October 3 in the MCW Alumni Center. Among the course topics:
The importance of multidisciplinary care in the management of breast cancer
Options available to assess breast cancer margins intraoperatively in patients undergoing lumpectomy
Post-lumpectomy and post-mastectomy radiation therapy approaches to the breast and chest wall
Surgical and radiation management options for node-positive breast cancer after lumpectomy and mastectomy
Novel systemic therapy approaches for breast cancer, which comprise immunotherapy, targeted therapies including the PI3K/mTOR signaling pathway, and other modalities that may be used in conjunction with standard chemotherapy regimens, hormonal therapy and targeted H2N therapy

A Milwaukee television anchor and reporter, Melodie Wilson Oldenburg died of breast cancer in 2009 at the age of 59. She served as a member of the MCW Board of Trustees and was the co-founder of the MCW Cancer Center Advisory Board. Wilson Oldenburg also founded and led ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis, an organization that provides free one-on-one help, support and hope for breast cancer patients. The symposium is made possible through the support of family and friends in honor of Melodie Wilson Oldenburg.
