MCW to celebrate 100th anniversary of the founding of the Marquette University School of Medicine

Jan. 10, 2013 College News - In honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Marquette University School of Medicine (MUSM), the Medical College of Wisconsin is running a series of stories and hosting various events the week of Jan. 14-18. The celebration includes an anniversary cake cutting, which will be held outside the College cafeteria on Monday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. The cake will be cut by John R. Raymond, Sr. MD, MCW President and CEO, Dr. Margaret Callahan, Dean of the Marquette University School of Nursing, and Dr. Jeanne Hossenlopp, Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Marquette University Graduate School.  All faculty, staff and students are invited to stop by from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (or until the cake runs out) for a piece of cake to commemorate this important milestone in MCW’s history.

The Marquette University School of Medicine was formed on Jan. 14, 1913, and, in 1970, became the Medical College of Wisconsin. Additional information on the history of the MUSM will be presented later this week along with photos of yearbooks, art work and other artifacts from the MUSM that are currently housed in the MCW Todd Wehr Library or the College’s archives. Library staff also will showcase some of these artifacts in the cafeteria lobby during the cake celebration on Jan. 14 and throughout the week in their permanent display case outside the Todd Wehr Library.

Additional stories will touch on current collaborations between MCW and Marquette University, notable Marquette University School of Medicine alumni and discoveries, and current MCW faculty members who were faculty when the medical school was still part of Marquette University.

All stories and photos published this week in honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Marquette University School of Medicine will be posted and available on the College’s Website.
