Doctors worldwide see a live case presentation featuring a unique brain aneurysm coiling technique

Dec. 26, 2013 College News - On Tuesday, Dec. 10, a Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin neurointerventional team participated in a live case presentation during the Live Interventional Neuroradiology Conference (LINC) held in Houston, TX.  This is a highly respected and well-attended conference among interventional neuroradiologists and neurosurgeons.

Working in our interventional neurology suites with an IR team, Osama Zaidat, MD, Professor of Neurology and Chief of General Neurology at MCW and Medical Co-Director of Froedtert & the Medical College Stroke and Neurovascular Program, performed a unique technique for aneurysm coiling off the cerebral artery.  Working from live-streaming video, Dr. Marc Lazzaro led the case presentation and moderated questions on site in Houston.  Nearly 200 doctors from across the globe attended the conference and many others viewed it online from locations around the world.

In addition to Dr. Zaidat’s case, live cases for this conference were presented from Argentina, Japan, Turkey, Arizona and New York.

Each year, our experts train more than 1,000 medical, nursing and health technical students.  Education also happens well beyond our walls, with published articles in medical journals and trade publications, as well as presentations given at conferences worldwide.  At Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, not only is caring for our patients incredibly rewarding, but teaching some of medicine’s newest techniques to colleagues is as well.

Julie Aguilar, interventional radiology manager, led efforts to coordinate the production company’s filming process.  This took a collaborative effort by many, and she thanks all who took extra time and effort to make the presentation a success.

Video-streamed live case presentations are becoming more popular for medical education.  In recent years, physicians in various specialties across our organization have used this innovative teaching approach.
