College approved to establish Gold Humanism Honor Society
Jan. 03, 2014 College News - The Medical College of Wisconsin has been selected by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation to establish a chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Richard Holloway, PhD, Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Associate Dean for Student Affairs, will serve as chapter advisor.
The society honors medical students, residents, physician teachers, and others who demonstrate excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service, and was created to elevate the values of humanism and professionalism in medicine. Having a chapter shows that MCW places high value on the interpersonal skills and attitudes that are essential for excellent patient care.
The MCW chapter will have a strong service function, with activities such as:
Sponsoring academic and extracurricular events to promote humanism and professionalism in medicine
Workshops and activities related to writing for personal expression and other humanistic activities
Creating a mentorship program for first- and second-year students.
