Annual Rock Cancer Music Festival on Aug. 16 to benefit MCW cancer research

July 17, 2014 College News - The 6th Rock Cancer, organized by the Spierings Cancer Foundation, will take place Saturday, Aug. 16, at Doyle Park in Little Chute.

This day-long celebration of rock music and family fun begins at 10 a.m. with registration for the Rock Cancer Chalk Walk, where participants are encouraged to write messages in chalk along a special walk route as a way to honor loved ones affected by cancer.

The following area bands are scheduled to perform:

1 p.m.                   Homemade Brew
3 p.m.                   Straight Chuters
5:30 p.m.              The Bomb
7:45 p.m.              Adams Way
10 p.m.                 Half Empty

The event also features performances by Wisconsin Strongman, inflatable toys, face painting, a dunk tank, food and refreshments, raffles and a silent auction.

Wrist bands, which are used to gain admission to all the activities, can be purchased for $5 at the event. VIP seating and a reserved picnic table are available by contacting Scott Van Deurzen, vandeurzen525@sbcglobal.net or (920) 858-6626.

Proceeds from the event support cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center.

The Spierings Cancer Foundation was founded in 2008 by Jim Spierings, a throat cancer survivor, to provide financial support for families affected by cancer, to enhance medical care for cancer patients in the Fox Cities, and to fund cancer research in Wisconsin. The Foundation has raised more than $400,000 since its inception. Last year, the foundation donated $3,000 for cancer research at the MCW Cancer Center.
