New NLM Image Search Resource: Open-i
The National Library of Medicine recently unveiled a new tool to add to its impressive list of freely available databases. This new resource is called "Open-i" and it "aims to provide next generation information retrieval services for biomedical articles from the full text collections such as PubMed Central."
Open-i is in beta, but it provides a unique way to search for images. The search is based both on indexing the image itself, and the text of the article that provides the context for the image. There are currently around 600,000 images from PubMed Central in Open-i. If you're looking for images, you'll want to know about this resource!
