MCW Libraries Concussion Display
In October the north display case outside the entrance of the Todd Wehr Library features a display on sports related concussion. According to the CDC approximately 1.6 - 3.8 million sports and recreation related concussions occur in the United States each year. The display includes information on how concussion is defined, symptoms, facts and figures, the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool 2 (SCAT2), Graduated Return to Play Protocol, the State of Wisconsin Sidelined for Safety Act, and more.
Michael McCrea, PhD, ABPP-CN, Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurology, Director of Brain Injury Research, and Kevin D. Walter, MD, FAAP, Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Department of Pediatrics, Program Director of Pediatric and Adolescent Primary Care Sports Medicine helped contribute materials for the display. Dr. McCrea is a member of the group of experts that developed the SCAT2 in 2008. He will be a speaker at the upcoming 4th International Consensus Conference on Concussion in Sport being held in Zurich in November. Dr. Walter created a multidisciplinary Concussion Clinic at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
