Performance Measures in Health Care

Performance measurement in health care is "the regular collection of data to assess whether the correct processes are being performed and desired results are being achieved."  (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2014).  Areas of improvement in patient care quality and performance can be identified when performance measurers are assessed against national and international evidence-based standards and guidelines. Additional information on performance measurement and what it is, along with some recommendations, can be found on the American College of Physicians' Performance Measurement website.
