Pediatric Otolaryngology Nurse Practitioner Appointed to SOHN Planning Committee
Pediatric otolaryngology nurse practitioner, Kristina Keppel, APNP, was appointed to the planning committee for the Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Nurses’ (SOHN) National Fall Congress for the next three years. In 2015 Kristina will serve in an assistant role, in 2016 as co-chair and then in 2017 she will be the chair. SOHN’s Congress is the nursing equivalent to the annual AAO-HNS meeting.
Department Held 1st Best Evidence ENT Conference
The department held the inaugural Best Evidence ENT 2014 at The American Club in Kohler, WI August 2-5. The conference was a success and very well attended and we look forward to hosting Best Evidence ENT 2015, July 25-28! Below are pictures from the conference:
PGY-4 Wins Best Resident Basic Science Research Award
Otolaryngology resident, Dr. Ruchin Patel, won the Best Resident Basic Science Research Award at the October 18-19 annual meeting of the Wisconsin Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The meeting was held at the Osthoff Lake Resort in Elkart Lake, WI.
Dr. Bock Receives Outstanding Teacher Pin
Dr. Jon Bock received an outstanding teacher pin from the MCW Physician Scientist Pathway for the 2013-2014 year to recognize his excellence in teaching. The Physician Scientist Pathway is for students interested in complementing their clinical development with the skills required to become clinician-scientists. Through core sessions and a mentored research project, students gain an understanding of the way research improves patient care. Encompassing both basic science and clinical research, this Pathway uses a hypothesis driven research project to provide the student an individualized research experience allowing for the development of broad research skills.
Dr. Garcia Granted 3-year Mentored Career Development Award
The Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin granted Guilherme Garcia, PhD a three-year Mentored Career Development Award to study the role of pharyngeal tissue properties in obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Garcia will be mentored by Drs. John Rhee and B. Tucker Woodson.
Dr. Campbell Receives Exellence in Professionalism Award
Bruce Campbell, MD was nominated by colleagues and chosen by a committee of peers to receive the 2014 Medical College Physicians Excellence in Professionalism Award.
