Overview of the Critical Care Fellowship Program

The Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship started in 1985. It has been accredited continuously by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) since such credentialing was available. The three-year program prepares Board-eligible or Board-certified pediatricians for Subspecialty certification by the American Board of Pediatrics. An optional fourth year is offered to selected Fellows who wish to begin their clinical careers with ample time protected for continuing research programs or completing advanced degrees.

The Fellowship's goals are the following:

  1. To train physicians to take excellent care of critically ill children.
  2. To help these physicians develop as teachers.
  3. To train physicians who are competent and motivated in areas of both basic and clinical research.

The Fellowship is fully funded for four positions per year. The Division of Pediatric Critical Care participates in the National Resident Fellowship Matching Program.

The PCCM Fellowship Program is fully compliant with ACGME requirements for restricted duty hours.
