David C. Brousseau, MD, MS

Professor, Pediatrics

dbrousse@mcw.edu

Dr. Brousseau's research focus is the role of the emergency department in the continuum of care for children. Most of his work centers on investigating how the relationship between a child/family and its primary care provider affects emergency department utilization. This research attempts to go beyond explaining emergency department utilization using the demographic characteristics of children and families, and seeks to explore the primary care relationship from the parent perspective to better understand the care seeking patterns of families.

In addition to the focus on emergency department utilization, Dr. Brousseau also has a research interest in the emergency department treatment of children with chronic illnesses resulting in repeated and predictable emergency department utilization. In this realm, his research has focused on the treatment and follow-up of children with sickle cell disease and asthma.
