Global Health Elective Preparation

There are potential pitfalls associated with medical trainees travel to clinical arenas in which they are unfamiliar—diseases are different, the resources available for education and treatment are often limited, there are language and cultural barriers, and students face safety issues pertaining to travel and occupational exposures. In an effort to standardize the way all MCW trainees are prepared for short-term global health electives, key faculty leadership developed MCW specific curriculum for trainees’ preparation for global engagement, which includes the following:

  • A new Angel Module Global Health Elective Preparation with open access to the MCW community
  • An electronic Guide for Global Engagement
  • An Emergency Card for Global Health Electives for the student to keep on them at all times during the international elective.
  • Two, 20 minute on-line courses with voiceover Powerpoint:

“What to Consider with International Travel
and Wellness”
(by Christopher Mol)

  • A pilot 90 minute in-person interactive session entitled the
