Nov. 14 - On Monday, Nov. 17, and Tuesday, Nov. 18, several refugee health events will be hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Family Services and feature Dr. Marc Altshuler, Director of the Jefferson Center for Refugee Health in Philadelphia.
Oct. 28 - A delegation from Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH), South Korea, led by Dr. Kyung-Suk Suh, professor and chair of surgery, visited the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in October to formalize the academic affiliation between SNUH and MCW.
Aug. 19 - For the fourth year, MCW’s Department of Emergency Medicine and the Office of Global Health provided formal training for doctors, nurses, and EMT personnel from Belize’s hospital with the busiest emergency department. Wauwatosa Now
Aug. 13 - A team of doctors, nurses, and EMT personnel from the nation of Belize has completed two weeks of intensive training with emergency medicine specialists in Milwaukee to strengthen the capabilities and response development of Belize’s busiest emergency department.
July 30 - MCW’s Department of Emergency Medicine has entered into a relationship with the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize and the Belize Ministry of Health in which MCW will provide advanced training in emergency medicine to the hospital’s doctors and nurses. June 11 - Stephen Hargarten, MD, MPH, Professor and Chair of Emergency Medicine, Associate Dean of the Global Health Program, and Director of the Injury Research Center, has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the Center for International Health (CIH) in Milwaukee. He will continue to serve in all of his current MCW leadership roles.
May 28 - Second-year medical students presented outcomes of their collaborative global research studies in Washington, DC on May 10 at the fifth meeting of the Consortium of Universities of Global Health annual meeting.
In the aftermath of super typhoon Haiyan, two alumni traveled to islands in the Philippines on separate medical missions to provide care to the many victims of the storm.
Feb. 21 - On Thursday, Feb. 27, , the Medical College of Wisconsin medical students' Global Health Organization and Academic Affairs' Global Health Pathway will co-host the 6th annual Global Health Fair. The theme of this year's fair, which runs from 12:30-4:15 p.m., is Medicine in Conflict Zones (PDF).
