Dr. Yvonne Chiu receives Dermatology Foundation Career Development Award

April 15 - Yvonne Chiu, MD, Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), was awarded a three-year Pediatric Dermatology Career Development Award by the Dermatology Foundation at its annual meeting in Denver. She is one of only two people nationwide to receive that particular award, and it will be applied towards her project, Clinical and Genetic Investigations of Pediatric Morphea.

Dr. Colleen Lawton represents national organization at ESTRO 33 meeting in Vienna, Austria

April 15 - In her role as Chairman of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), Colleen Lawton, MD, presented a Best of ASTRO symposium at the ESTRO 33 (European Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology) Conference held in Vienna, Austria, on April 4-8.

Dr. Frank Pintar selected to be a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers

April 14 - Frank A Pintar, PhD, Professor of Neurosurgery, was selected to be a Fellow in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) at the April SAE Congress meeting. SAE Fellowship is the highest level of membership bestowed by SAE International and is awarded to recognize outstanding engineering and scientific accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace and commercial-vehicle technology.

Dr. Beth Erickson receives Ulrich Henschke Award from American Brachytherapy Society

April 08 - Beth Erickson, MD, Professor of Radiation Oncology, received the Ulrich Henschke Award at the 2014 American Brachytherapy Society (ABS) annual meeting in San Diego. The Ulrich Henschke Award is the highest honor the American Brachytherapy Society can bestow on a practitioner of brachytherapy, awarded for contributions to the field of brachytherapy, the radiation therapy community, and to the ABS.

Dr. Kulwinder S. Dua elected President of Dysphagia Research Society

Dr. Raj Rao elected to Board of Directors of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons

March 20 - Raj Rao, MD, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery, was elected to the Board of Directors of the 38,000 member American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) at its 2014 annual meeting. A long-time active member of the academy, Dr. Rao has served in several leadership capacities including chair of the AAOS Diversity Advisory Board from 2011-2014 and as an Academy Leadership Fellow in 2005.

Mary Horowitz, MD, MS receives 2014 ASBMT Lifetime Achievement Award

Mar. 05 - By virtue of a unanimous decision from the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) Executive Committee, Mary Horowitz, MD, MS, was presented with the 2014 ASBMT Lifetime Achievement Award during the ASBMT Awards and Business Meeting on Feb. 28, 2014. Dr. Horowitz is the Robert A. Uihlein, Jr. Chair in Hematologic Research, Professor of Medicine and Chief of Hematology and Oncology. She serves as Chief Scientific Director of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR).

Dr. Kevin Walter to serve on national council to combat catastrophic injury among young athletes

Feb. 18 - Kevin Walter, MD, Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Program Director of Pediatric & Adolescent Sports Medicine at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, has been selected to serve as a member of the National Council on Youth Sports Safety (NCYSS) to direct Protecting Athletes and Sports Safety (PASS), a two-year initiative to combat the incidence of catastrophic injury among young athletes. The council, led by David Satcher, MD, former U.S. Surgeon General, will review existing research, explore alternative solutions, and develop a strategic plan for the implementation of national guidelines on youth sports safety.
