BBC engineering team receives USAID grant

Sept. 05 - As part of the Tech Challenge for Atrocity Prevention hosted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a team of investigators from the Biotechnology and Bioengineering Center (BBC) at the Medical College of Wisconsin recently received a seed grant in the sum of $50,000.

Feb. 11 - The Biotechnology and Bioengineering Center has launched a Visiting Faculty Program that will bring exceptional researchers to the Medical College of Wisconsin for long-term visits. These visiting scholars will present seminars and establish collaborations with MCW faculty during their appointments.

Inspiring young scientists

Feb. 06 - The Biotechnology and Bioengineering Center’s (BBC) Education Outreach program continues its efforts to inspire young scientists. This year, outreach mentors guided 7th grade students from St. Matthias Parish School in Milwaukee through the scientific process as they prepared for their annual science fair on Jan. 26.

Dr. Brian Hoffmann receives Excellence in Science Award

Dec. 19 - Brian Hoffmann, PhD, a Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Andrew Greene’s Lab, received the 2013 Excellence in Science Award from the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Office of Postdoctoral Education.

Dr. Shama Mirza contributes to Nobel Prize winning project

Nov. 26 - The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, won the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to eliminate chemical weapons from the world. Shama Mirza, PhD, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry in the Biotechnology and Bioengineering Center, was part of a team of scientists at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) in Hyderabad, India, that partners with the OPCW in these efforts.
