The Health Equity and Partnerships Division hosted a site visit on August 21, 2012, for Sandra Millon-Underwood, PhD, RN FAAN, and some of her nursing students.

Dr. Underwood is a American Cancer Society Professor and Northwestern Mutual Life Research Scholar in the College of Nursing, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Clarene Mitchell (far left) forged relationships with Dr. Underwood and her students during the recent Intercultural Cancer Council (ICC) Biennial Symposium that was held in Houston, Texas. The students were able to advance their professional development through insights and guidance from Earnestine Willis, MD, MPH, Health Equity Director.

Each of the students are being mentored by Dr. Underwood through her community cancer prevention initiatives that target underserved populations, so they were very appreciative of the opportunity to converse with Alonzo P. Walker, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Diversity, Chief of General Surgery and Professor and learn of his 30-year career focused on breast cancer treatment, research and education, particularly for underserved women. Their time on campus included a tour of the Froedtert Clinical Cancer Center as well.

Clarene coordinated the tour through her membership on Froedtert’s Community Advisory Council.
