BS, Biochemistry, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2010

Faculty Advisor: Ramani Ramchandran, PhD

Research Area: Angiogenesis and vascular development, small molecule screening and drug discovery

I began my research career as an undergraduate, working in laboratories both at The Medical College of Wisconsin and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in cholesterol transport, botanical evolution, cardiac bioinformatics and neuro-oncology. Ultimately, the ability to practice medicine and perform bench research proved too enticing, and I joined the MD/PhD program at MCW.

I joined the Ramchandran lab to explore the role and function of the dual-specificity phosphatase DUSP5 in vasculogenesis. Serendipitously, the lab identified a mutation in DUSP5 in patients with vascular anomalies. Therefore the other, translational portion of my work is the design and screening of small molecule targets to be used in clinical therapies for these patients.
